Revenue, Simplified — Vol. 4

Welcome to the fourth edition of our newsletter: Revenue, Simplified.

We hope everyone who attended enjoyed Dreamforce. We assume there wasn't much buzz around any major partnerships. Just good old-fashioned Salesforce platform knowledge seekers trying to make friends and connect over everyday problems.

Come See What We're Building

Before we get to the good stuff, we have to share some super exciting news. We're participating in the Salesforce Ben Demo Jam next month. Please click the image below for more information!

Is "Reviewing it" good enough?

AI tech influencers, especially within the ecosystem, are always making claims that "AI makes it easier than ever to build something".

But what you build, and how you build it, matters.

Would you eat at a restaurant if your food was prepared solely by machines? Maybe so, but you would likely be more inclined if you knew that every plate was consistently reviewed by a member of the kitchen staff. However, is just reviewing each plate even enough?

The theme of newcomers leveraging AI for software development is quite widespread at this point. It is interesting to hear about such small teams building tools that would have been unlikely to be built a few years ago. Consultants replacing traditional developers is definitely happening. Many of them have coding experience; some have none. Would you use their AI-driven services, regardless of how much software development experience that they have?

Many established companies are also using these tools to make sure that they are not left in the dust. But many of their customers made purchasing decisions before this technology surfaced. Would these companies be better off splitting their roadmap between AI and non-AI initiatives instead of focusing on what might provide a growth spurt?

The Salesforce Admin

"The role of the Salesforce admin keeps evolving" has become a common phrase.

Frankly, this has always been the case.

Admins have consistently been asked to do more with less, especially since their job description will sound different depending on who you ask within the company. Their role is truly an anomaly. Here are just some of the many things they are asked to do:

  • Gather business requirements and translate them into a technical scoping document.
  • Build custom UIs within Salesforce.
  • Use any means necessary to analyze data and provide intelligent feedback to business groups.
  • Create unrealistic reports directly inside Salesforce.
  • Provide feedback on solution design without being in the room with all of the stakeholders.

Some of the newer Salesforce products and extensions are designed to help admins. But what happens when the company goes headless? Do we just keep throwing more tools on top of an already expanding role? Maybe the organization should start creating more defined roles. Or maybe, at the very least, paying admins appropriately would be a good start.

Happy Fall!
